There are places that stand the test of time, sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Places where authentic charm blends with natural beauty. Destinations where every visitor can feel a little at home. Audresselles, a small fishing village nestling on the splendid Cîte d’Opale, is such a place. When you visit Audresselles, you’ll discover why this haven of peace has become a tourist favorite.

A journey through time at Audresselles

When you set foot in Audresselles, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Fishermen have worked this sheltered cove since at least the 13th century, drawn by the natural protection it offers from the region’s dominant winds. The village has kept its narrow streets, its low houses, and its unhurried pace, at a scale that’s easy to forget once you’re used to bigger seaside resorts: Audresselles counts around 608 residents in 2025, down from 663 in 2016 (INSEE data, via bien-dans-ma-ville.fr), spread over roughly 2.5 kmÂČ, one of the smallest coastal villages on the CĂŽte d’Opale. Locally, longtime residents still call it « OdrĂšssĂšl », its name in Boulonnais patois.

One of the village’s key assets is its proximity to numerous towns and villages along the coast. Boulogne-sur-Mer, with its Nausicaa national marine center, Calais, Wimereux and Le Touquet-Paris-Plage are all easily accessible from Audresselles.

Did you know?

Audresselles, this picturesque village remains faithful to fishing with flobarts, those colorful and sturdy traditional boats, specially designed to be launched directly from the beach. They can float in as little as 30 cm of water, which is exactly why they never needed a harbor. đŸš€

Flobarts were used all along the Cîte d’Opale until the late 19th century, but Audresselles remains the village most identified with them today: several are still kept and used by local fishermen and heritage enthusiasts, not just displayed as relics. 🐠

It’s like taking a trip back in time, where you can observe a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation, a genuine piece of local maritime history! 💎

So if you’re visiting Audresselles, be sure to take a look at these flobarts on the beach. It’s a unique experience that connects you to the working history of this fishing village. 🌟

Leisure activities in Audresselles

The beach at Audresselles, located between Cap Gris-Nez and Cap Blanc-Nez, is a veritable paradise for nature and sea lovers. Here, leisure activities are numerous and varied. Hiking trails offer wide panoramas of the Capes and the Strait of Dover. From the Croix du Cap Gris-Nez, the GR 120 coastal path runs about 5 km to Audresselles, with views over the cliffs and, on clear days, the English coast. Closer to the village, the Sentier des PĂȘcheurs starts on avenue des Flobarts and covers 2.7 km, roughly an hour’s walk. The beach is also an ideal place for fishing at low tide.

Another village within easy reach of Audresselles is Ambleteuse. With its authentic beach and Vauban fort, Ambleteuse offers a guaranteed change of scenery, just a few minutes from Audresselles.

Practical information for 2026

Audresselles has no tourist office of its own. The reference office covering the village is in Wissant (62179), place de la Mairie, reachable at +33 3 21 82 48 00; it’s the right place to confirm current opening hours and any local event dates before you go. Since January 1, 2002, Audresselles has belonged to the CommunautĂ© de communes de la Terre des 2 Caps, which brings together 21 neighboring municipalities and about 22,323 residents.

The village is also one of eight villages recognized within the Grand Site de France des Deux-Caps, a protected area covering around 7,500 hectares and 23 km of coastline that includes Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez. If you’re planning to combine Audresselles with a hike to either cape, build in half a day for the GR 120 stretch alone, plus time for the Sentier des PĂȘcheurs if you want a shorter loop closer to the village. As always with trail and opening-hours information, double-check the official Pas-de-Calais Tourisme and Terre des 2 Caps sites shortly before your visit, since conditions can change from one season to the next.
